We'll stay at Ikola village for another two days. Our best transport option is a weekly ferry boat that arrives this Friday. To hire our own boat would have cost too much money in fuel costs, not to mention the danger of a long voyage in a rickety fishing boat.
Staying in a village is good
fun, especially if you like being the center of attention. Kids surround us at
all times. Most kids simply stare at us, some burst out crying because they're
scared of strangers, others scatter whenever we bring out a camera.
Beach
life guard. Do you think he's seen Baywatch?
In lakeside villages the kids work, filling
water bottles, washing pots, and sweeping dirt yards. A small primary school offers
free education. Children must seek higher education elsewhere, or learn how to
fish and integrate with the local economy.
