Yesterday we returned to Quitos from the Galapagos. We will travel with some of our Galapagos shipmates for a few days. Last night we hired a taxi and went south to Saquisili for some shopping at a famous, Thursday morning market.
Ecuadorian economists consider this market at Saquisili to be the most important indigenous village market of the country.
Yes, we tried deep fried guinea pig, a native speciality. The little guys look fat and cuddly when they're alive, but drop them in the deep fry and they turn into skinny creatures. Gamey meat, it tastes like salty sardines.
This market is for the native people. Everyone wears felt 'pork pie' hats and bright shawls.
