|After visiting Nicaragua's three main cities it's time to go into the countryside and that means entering jungle and climbing volcanoes. We board a ferry which carries us over Lago de Nicaragua to the volcanic island of Ometepe. On the remote side of this island we stop in a camp at the foot of the volcano and swim in the warm and murky lake water.|
|Ometepe means "between two hills" in reference to the two volcanoes that rose from the lakebed and joined with a lava bridge. A gravel road runs around the figure eight shape of the island.|
Swim in warm lake water. Don't listen to stories about piranha and crocodiles.
Birds add color to the island.
