Granada turns out to be our favorite city of Nicaragua because we find the essence of the country here: volcanos, spanish churches, villas, and a fresh lake. Nicaragua turns out to be one of our favorite countries of Central America for the same reason - it's offers the region's attractions at cheaper prices and relatively untouched by tourism.
Just offshore from Granada float Las Isletas, a group of 365 diminuitive islands formed from rocks spitting out of Volcan Mombacho. Most of the islands are no bigger than a putting green. Small houses have sprung up on some of them and boats bob in the canals that have formed between the islands - it's a closest thing Nicaragua has to Venice.
