How are Rio's beaches, Copacabana and Ipanema, different from any other? They have more soccer goals and volleyball nets per square feet of sand. Beach goers erect small stadiums for the more serious soccer events. Rio's skyscrapers surround the beach. A backdrop of dome like mountains stands behind the skyscrapers. Granite slabs guard the entrance to the bay.
In Brazil, volleyball is actually soccer volleyball, and it's amazing to see how well people can play this sport without using their hands.
