Belem is one of the rainiest cities of the world, but cool Atlantic breezes keep stifling humidity manageable. Besides a bustling waterfront, Belem showcases some colonial relics like old cathedrals or rubber magnate mansions, but maybe the most interesting attraction is the botanical gardens and zoo where visitors can find animals otherwise hidden in the jungle.
Our only chance to see a jaguar. He's watching his neighbor, a black puma, howl for lunch.
The ugliest and prettiest of the Amazon. A huge black caiman (alligator) watches a colorful distraction - the scarlet macaw.
Armadillo and turtle snout comparison.
Besides dolphins and otters, manatees are the Amazon's other water loving mammals.
