|On camel safari in the Thar desert near India's border with Pakistan, I need to be careful because our camel guide hasn't enjoyed my jokes about eating camel tikka masala.|
The desert scorches you during the day and freezes you in the night. Stray dogs nestled into our bed for warmth and shared their fleas.
Camel school; the teacher never showed me how to stop and 'Whoa' isn't a Hindu word. A full day on camelback provides enough riding to last a lifetime. The camels sway enough to make riders seasick. They can run as fast as horses too, a scary proposition because they stand twice as high.
The turban acts as a tandoori oven for the head.
