Next Day
On camel safari in the Thar desert near India's border with Pakistan, I need to be careful because our camel guide hasn't enjoyed my jokes about eating camel tikka masala.
The desert scorches you during the day and freezes you in the night. Stray dogs nestled into our bed for warmth and shared their fleas.
Camel school; the teacher never showed me how to stop and 'Whoa' isn't a Hindu word. A full day on camelback provides enough riding to last a lifetime. The camels sway enough to make riders seasick. They can run as fast as horses too, a scary proposition because they stand twice as high.
The turban acts as a tandoori oven for the head.
