On camel safari in the Thar desert near India's border with Pakistan, I need to be careful because our camel guide hasn't enjoyed my jokes about eating camel tikka masala. | |||

desert scorches you during the day and freezes you in the night. Stray dogs nestled
into our bed for warmth and shared their fleas. | |||

Camel school; the teacher
never showed me how to stop and 'Whoa' isn't a Hindu word. A full day on camelback
provides enough riding to last a lifetime. The camels sway enough to make riders
seasick. They can run as fast as horses too, a scary proposition because they
stand twice as high. | |||
