Puri is one of the holiest cities in India. We visited Puri because it's on the beach and rhymes with curry. Turned out to be one of our favorite stops. People look from the corners of their eyes rather than confront with a stare, and that sums up the laid back subtleties of this small town. We can't say what creates the relaxed atmosphere. Maybe it's the holiness. Or maybe it's because the temples lie near the beach - a chance for worshipers to grow close to God and improve their tans simultaneously. It sure seems to put people in a good mood, Puri.
The fishing boats land their
catch and auction off fish on the beach.
Bring
your basket and go fish shopping. Don't forget the bag of curry spice.
