India demands that its visitors prepare for diversity. The change we find today happens after a 4 hour bus ride to Pondicherry, a former French colony settled in the 18th century. If there is a French Quarter in India, then Pondicherry holds it and after months in Africa and India we're ready for a touch of Europe. Most of the French have gone but the bakeries, police uniforms, and buildings remain.
We
rent a moped and zip around Pondy.
The Indian police of Pondicherry
have kept their red kepis (caps) as if they're ready to join the French Foreign
Legion. | |||
