Next Day
Back to the original banana republic - Honduras.
From San Miguel, El Salvador, we rode a local bus to the border with Honduras. It's a laid back crossing for us - an immigration official stamped our passports with barely a glance.
Rather than take another local bus, we hitchiked and caught a ride with a colorful Australian, Chris, who plans to take his converted Toyota (which can run on propane or gasoline) to every continent in the world. A museum in Sydney will display the vehicle after he returns in 5 or so years. We rode with him to Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, and spent our time looking for a place to fill up his propane tank. Propane costs half as much as gasoline. It's a new experience to ride in a propane-fueled car and search for a propane refilling station.
