Like mindless guidebook drones we take a cheap taxi to see another ruined city, Jerash. Called a 'must-see' by our books, Jerash is a well preserved example of a former member of the Decapolis, the commercial league of ten cities formed by Pompey in 64 BC. From high times enjoyed under the Greeks and Romans, Jerash fell on bad times - a few Persian sackings, Muslim conquest, and an earthquake in 750 AD left the city deserted.
Jerash's forum, reminiscent of the Vatican.

The Roman's used coin-sized clay tablets as theatre tickets.
