Previous Day September 9, 2001 Next Day
We left Johannesburg on a long, slow train ride bound for Port Elizabeth. The scenery: flat, scrubby land, larg ghetto townships of scrap metal housing, a few ostrich farms.
On our trainride we pass several ghettos. South Africa has a large group of people without any means. Zimbabwe handled their wealth distribution problems by allowing lawless bands to confiscate rich farmland. Hopefully, South Africa will find better methods to redistribute wealth.
Bushland views from our train window.
Comfortable train, practically deserted. We had a six person berth to ourselves.
