Oh my Gawd! our truck breaks down in the middle of the desert, a scenario imagined in nightmares. Prognosis: broken bearings have melded the right front wheel to the axle. Luckily our truck is equipped with a lot of heavy tools and a driver who knows not to take the advice of mechanically disinclined passengers. After four hours of heavy tanning, water guzzling, and percussive truck maintenance, we hitch a ride to Swakopmund. Our driver, Big Boy, remains in the desert to fix the truck.
Namibia or the moon?
Where's the service station when you really need one?
Big Boy uses none of our advice - good thinking.
Only found in Namibia, the welwitschia is a slow growing conifer that lives over 1,000 years.
