In the aftermath of the disaster at home, we spend the morning watching CNN. The local radio stations added further coverage by broadcasting feeds from American radio. Reaction here is universally supportive, however, most people pray that the United States does not enlarge the conflict. South Africans also have a lot of experience with domestic terrorism since the conflict over apartheid only officially ended in 1994 with the first free elections.
In the afternoon we tear ourselves away from homefront news and visit a cheetah farm. Due to their declining numbers, cheetah's suffer from a limited worldwide genepool, all cheetahs are 98% identical and most are related.
Cheetahs can go from 0-60 mpg in under 3 seconds, so much faster than our rental car, the Toyota Tazz, which must take at least 10 seconds to reach 60 mph.
We also visited the Cango Caves, over 1.5 km deep, once inhabited by bushmen 70,000 years ago
