Have car, will travel. Leaving Switzerland for France, we drove to the highest European peak, Mont Blanc, and stayed in a town called Chamonix. We spent the day hiking up nearby mountains for better views of Mont Blanc which weren't forthcoming because of the fog and drizzle. We had fun anyway, hermetically sealed in our waterproof pants and jackets, thankful we had carried that bulky rain gear with us, even during the dry July thru September months. To get away from greasy restaurant food, we've been eating French bread, wine, and cheese for our daily meals. It's quite satisfying - gruyere cheese has been our favorite so far.  
 
Give me an Amsterdam brownie and I may actually try to fly.
