| Leshan: Today we grabbed a bus going from Chengdu to Leshan. The scenery was rice paddies bordered by villages and roads. The city of Leshan is located at the confluence of three very fast-moving rivers. Over a thousand years ago, the locals decided to build a big Buddha to help calm the rough river waters. The Chinese never seem to do anything small, so at Leshan they built the largest stone Buddha in the world. It's 215 feet high (and Buddha isn't skinny either) so you can imagine that this is one big Buddha...(Below) |
