This morning we walked before dawn. Going out in dark was our first
mistake. Second mistake: no flashlight. We're African rookies. According
to Darwinism, we should be culled from the herd for stupidity. It almost
happened. As we watched grazing zebra, a Cape buffalo stepped out of a
bush 15 feet away. You'd think that a one ton animal could not be so close
without our knowledge, but I guess we're not winning prizes for being
observant. Cape buffalo are Africa's most dangerous animal. They're mean
tempered and will kill people because they never met someone that they
liked. These cheery thoughts flashed through our minds as we watched this
beast stare at us for a tense moment, then snort and move away. From then
we watched at a respectful distance. |
